Third Grade to Fifth Grade, sometimes called Higher El (Higher Elementary) or Upper El (Upper Elementary) shifts from reading for the sake of reading to reading for information and processing that information for other subjects. Students also begin to shift toward being more social and more interested in their peer groups. Older students must begin to prepare for the more demanding studies facing them in middle school.
