We produce the highest quality bindings in the industry. The difference between the quality provided by The Classroom Library Company and that of other companies is our sharp graphic cover reproductions, quality consistency and strength of materials and binding processes. We have developed procedures based on sound preservation principles, constant monitoring for quality, and ongoing improvements. Our goal will be to use all our capabilities to improve performance to the marketplace, expand services and provide superior quality and turnaround time.

Our pre-bound books are crafted using the following specifications:

Thinner books (typically children's "picture" style books) are side-sewn with a lock stitch for durability. This process uses a Nylon thread, with a cotton bobbin, to hold stitching tight and attaches the endpapers to the textblock by passing through the endpapers and textblock. Our two page endsheet is reinforced with 1-1/4" drill tape. The extra durable polycotton drill adds additional strength to insure a secure base for the sewing and is designed for heavy usage.

Thicker books (novels and text oriented books) are bound using a double fan adhesive binding machine. This process mills off the old paperback binding, notches the spine to allow a greater surface area for adhesion, then applies a cold emulsion poly-vinyl acetate (PVA) adhesive (using a double fanning process to evenly apply adhesive on both sides of the book pages). A thicker PVA is applied to fill the notches, and then a strip of reinforced cloth is placed over the spine and endpapers to hold into place. The resulting textblock allows for easy page turning and near layflat performance when reading, while the reinforced material (thread count of 78 x 78), combined with the flexible PVA, holds the pages together.

The endpapers are made using 80# acid free paper, to last as long or longer than the original book.

Each book is squared up with a minimal trim to make smooth straight textblocks on the top, bottom and fore-edge.

Cases are made using the original graphics from the paperback cover and a high resolution scanner. These images are digitally reproduced in vivid colors, then covered with Nylon film lamination, featuring a linen finish - all designed to protect from scratches and moisture - keeping your books looking nice for years to come!

This cover is wrapped around .080 binder's board, designed to be strong yet not so heavy that children feel the weight in their book packs. Each case is made using "library" style corners, to help strengthen vulnerable corners, which are a wear point.

Textblocks are cased-in using PVA, then the joints are built in with heat and pressure to assure a good solid bond in the gutter area.

Books are securely packed, then prepared for shipping.
